The WD Project: Sci-Fi Film Challenge (Australia) 2013 is a Competition run by Screen My Shorts Inc in collaboration of WD (S.E.Asia Ltd). We invite entrants of all ages, cultures and ability to submit original creative digital content and win a share of the AUD 10,000 (L$2.28 Million) cash and prizes (with at least AUD 1,500 / L$230,000 reserved for Machinima), and have their works exposed on the international stage.

Linden Endowment of the Arts Hosts Project 48 Machinima Premiere Screening in Second Life APR 14
The global sensation that is the 48 Hour Film Project comes to the virtual world of Second Life on Sat APR 14 with an exclusive inworld screening of all entries from the 2012 Machinima 48 Hour Film Project, accompanied by film crew interviews and a presentation by Emmy nominated Film SFX supervisor Tony Dyson.
22 teams will compete in this virtual-world rendition of the famous 48 Hour Film Project, where crews must create a machinima movie masterpiece within exactly 48 hours: write, shoot, edit and score it. With 3 required elements (prop, character and line of dialogue) and a randomly-assigned genre, filmmakers must work fast to create high-speed cinematic history. In the Project 48 Machinima edition, films are created within the 3D virtual world of Second Life.
The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) is a resident-managed agency within the world of Second Life, tasked with nurturing and promoting the arts community within the virtual world. LEA's new Media Arts Center specifically works with awareness, education and development of virtual world-generated video (machinima) and will be hosting this screening within its new LEA Theater, a high-tech facility designed for cutting-edge media events.
The program will also feature the head of jury, noted Emmy-nominated special effects supervisor Tony Dyson (Moonraker, Dragon Slayer, Star Wars, Altered States) delivering a presentation before the official awards ceremony to be streamed live from Casula Powerhouse Theater in Sydney, Australia. Other judges will include The rest of the judging panel includes; Sean Callinan, Paul Nunes, Chris Howlett, Dan Graf, Trace Sanderson and event host Phaylen Fairchild. The first place winning film will represent the 48HFPmachinima at the Filmapalooza Filmfestival 2012, in Los Angeles.

As part of its new Media Arts Center initiative, the Linden Endowment of the Arts will debut a state-of-the-art multimedia event space on April 15th, entitled the LEA Theatre, a facility that will host machinima programs, innovative performances and interactive works.
Created by Werner Kurosawa, the LEA Theatre is a unique Qsim design, crossing into four regions with a very unique audience capacity of 240. The venue features high-tech amenities, such as a large Chat Bridge (allowing text-conversations to reach far into the audience across multiple sims), screens that become transparent when not in use, and an incredible Audio / Video / Web switching system that uses the AV1000 developed by AviewTV. One of the benefits, according to Kurosawa, '...probably the only place in SL where you can be with 240 avatars'
The Theatre also features a dazzling array of movable mirrored panels covering its unmistakable dome, making it an iconic structure on the LEA campus. Werner's design is based on Delauney and Voronoi generating principles. There is switchable ambient lighting and according to Theatre Manager LaPiscean Liberty 'roundtable seating for a cozy closeness'. This space is perfect for Film Premiers and Festivals, media-enabled conferences and much more.
LEA Theatre will unveil a series of regular events, such as the return of a monthly machinima program, and will host booked events, partnering with arts organizations and event producers with projects that can really benefit from the new facility. The grand opening event will be the screening of this year's Machinima 48 Hour Film Project submissions, presented by Chantal Harvey on April 15th.
The Media Arts Center is a special project of the Linden Endowment of the Arts that focuses on machinima and other new media. The LEA Theatre is the first of MAC's initiatives to be released, and a full-fledged MAC facility will be opened before summer 2012.

I’d sat, wide-eyed, through 15 minutes of shoot-outs, technicolour sci-fi transformations, death-defying circus stunts, glowing vaginas and clowns. Behind the high-octane women superheroes working together to save the day colourfest was a serious message about child abduction and organised crime. And at the front was all that Second Life tech could do to portray bangs, flashes, explosions and high-speed chases.....

If you follow my blog at all, then this won't be the first time you hear me speak of Tukso Okey, who still remains, for me, the best and most exciting live musician in Second Life.
Actions speak louder than words, and ever since I wrote this poem almost two years ago, I had in the back of my mind, to do a video of it. Well it took this long to gain enough skills, to be able to do him and the poem justice, but I think the time has come, to show you in words, and moving imagery accompanied by him doing his classic hit "Red Hot Poppa" just why we are all hopping on his train, sometimes even three times a day, to be carried away on his music, his funky and versatile style, that never fails to surprise and delight. Tukso is something special among the many talented SL live musicians. His fan base is large, and I project will reach 1000 in 2012. We are not only a large group, but we have formed a family around his music, his charisma, how he makes us feel part of his music, when we listen to him playing his many instruments that he lays down. There is absolutely no doubt who is driving the train, and we are swept along as his lucky passengers These are not back tracks, pre-recorded. These are tracks Tukso lays down as we slowly move "out of the station on his own track" and that is why it is the metaphor for my poem and this video. I want to thank so many people who believed in it, in this project, and helped me see it realized. Thank you loyal family members: Kiki Reiko, Shepp Gilbraith, Kyoko Sabahi, Shesa Quandry, my SL Sister Maria Vought, Wynn Wrentling, Dharma Titanium, owner of The Alexander Theater, where the Live Show shots were filmed, and all family members who encouraged me along the way. I also want to give a special thank- you, to a fellow Machinima Artist Guild member, who is a moderator and one I look up to for her experience, and her generous sharing of it with those of us less adept, Natascha Randt.
Last, but certainly not least, I give a special thanks to Tukso Okey and his manager Padula Bing, for allowing me to use this song, in my video, and for also believing in my work and me.
This is a passion, and a labor of love. I hope you can feel that, and let's make no excuses, or water it down, Tukso's music is sensual, alluring, sexy and revolutionary. There is no getting around that. Those of us who dance to his beat, who wait to catch "the next one" know how very true that is. If you haven't felt that experience yet, well look him up and hop on soon.

UWA MACHINIMA MOVIE POSTER CONTEST: Open To All Artists!
In conjunction with this year's world-famous UWA Machinima Challenge, artists of every medium are invited to participate in an all-new companion event: the UWA Machinima Movie Poster Contest, where works of art will be showcased in a special exhibit that celebrates the rich heritage and imagination of the movie poster!
Who can enter?
Any photographers, graphic artists, painters, or illustrators with a passion for the movies and creative flair for the promotional can enter by creating works that are posters for films submitted into the UWA MachinimUWA V Challenge. And yes, artists who created videos that are submitted into the machinima contest are also permitted to submit posters for their own films!
How to enter:
1. To see the film submissions to date, go to www.aviewtv.com, browse the MachinimUWA V film gallery and choose from any of the submitted videos. Note that this year's film theme is 'Seek Wisdom'. Posters may or may not have anything to do with the theme, but posters should seek to promote the film in question in a way that may encourage more viewers. So, watch the film! Think about great poster ideas!
2. Create posters that are exactly 640x360 in proportion and resolution
3. Contact Ginette Pinazzo within Second Life via IM or Notecard to become registered and arrange for image transfers. Gina will confirm the validity of any submissions and enter you into the official entry list. (Gina is always available for early questions too!)

What Happens Next?
All posters will be displayed in AviewTV's Machinima Gallery in Second LIfe and there will be art openings to coincide. Poster prizes will be awarded at same time as prizes for MachinimUWA V video awards. Details of this process will be made available at later date.

“Clown Dolls Forever” is a glorious romp through the possibilities and potentialities of Second Life – the tools, collaborative opportunities and technical aspects – a colourful fun-fest with a serious message at its heart.
The story is complex, the action is unrelenting. It blends intimate voice sequences with stagey circus performances, shoot-outs, chases, and technicolour sci-fi transformations. Filmed entirely within a purpose-built city set, and using Hollywood-style multiple shot sequences, the machinima took 367 hours over 40 days to complete, used 30 actors, 5 voice actors and cost the princely sum of $L300 to produce.
The movie was “shot, chopped and scored” by Ambrosia Lanley, and this reveals a lot about her high-octane style and audacious approach to film-making in SL. Caylee Sabra wrote the screenplay from Ambrosia’s basic ideas - women as superheroes, finding a family, and working together to save the day. Taking the world-wide problem of child abduction as a central theme is courageous and is sure to resonate with many viewers.
This movie is also likely to inspire budding machinima producers as well. Ambrosia has only been making machinima in SL since March 2010, is completely self-taught and has mastered all aspects of production, direction, casting, set building, camerawork and editing through patient practice and frustrating trial and error. However, with 21 films under her belt already, another in production and “Clown Dolls 2” in the pipeline, the rewards Ambrosia gets in terms of fun, friendship and a creative frisson are apparent to anyone.
