Burn2 On Now!!!

Second Life— Burn2

Regional Community

Give us your tired, your poor, your house-bound, your transportation challenged— your huddled masses yearning for the playa. Burn2 is the International Regional that happens in the virtual world called Second Life, and though it might sound new to some people, we've been Burning the man there since 2003.
Burn2 is accessable 24/7 to anyone with a computer and internet connection! If you cant make it to an RL burn (that's "Real Life" in virtual-world jargon) you can probably make it to one of ours. The software is free to download, and access to the virtual Playa is free as well. When you teleport into virtual Gerlach, Nevada for the first time, many of you will feel instantly at home.
BURN2 hosts five main events yearly and a number of smaller events, get togethers, parties, trainings, and performances. Our big Burn event in October is an echo of Burning Man itself, with thousands attending throughout the week. Check the Calendar for more information.

Music Arts Magazine- Check it out

Veronica Weksler, or V as her friends call her, is a soulful musician with a heart of gold. The songstress was born into a family of virtuosos. Both her parents sang for well-known bands such as Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Glen Miller, and Benny Goodman. By the age of three V had begun to sing and play the piano making her natural talent obvious. As she grew her ear for music strengthened and she developed a taste for music outside the gospel and contemporary Christian rock genres.

Rhapsody in green: Lisa Cuthbert, ready to celebrate her Irish heritage
An internationally recognized celebration of Irish culture, St. Patrick’s Day is traditionally marked as a temporary respite from the abstinence associated with Lent. Cuthbert’s upcoming studio album Paramour takes for its inspiration a dark stain on the history of the Catholic church in Ireland - the now defunct Magdalene Asylum Laundries. About the Laundries she writes:
“Magdalene Asylums were institutions where Catholic women were enslaved and forced to work beyond human endurance because they were considered unfit to live in Irish society. A woman was branded ‘fallen’ if: she became pregnant, was a rape victim, illegitimate (born out of wedlock), orphaned, mentally handicapped, or even just too pretty. The girls were stripped of their identities, forbidden to speak, and if they broke any of the rules or tried to escape they were severely beaten by the nuns, put in solitary confinement, or even sent to mental hospitals.”
As a former convent school student, Cuthbert has strong feelings about the Laundries as well as  Catholicism in Ireland:
“Over a period of 150 years, an estimated 30,000 women were imprisoned in the Magdalene Asylums, and the last one shut in 1996. That part is really shocking for me because by 1996, I had already been baptised in the Catholic church and was attending a Catholic convent school in Dublin. It's horrific to think that I've been raised and educated with the same values and morals imposed by an organisation that destroyed so many lives.”

ABOUT LISA CUTHBERT:

“a simply amazing singer and a huge songwriting talent”
~ Andy Read, DPRP.net

Dublin born Lisa Cuthbert is a singer, instrumentalist and composer best known for her work with Duncan Patterson (ex Anathema) and Antimatter. Her solo work is as a dark, dramatic mix of emotional piano-based sounds with a Celtic twist; Hot Press Magazine has called her, "a darker Tori Amos".
Although Cuthbert's main instrument is the piano, her haunting, ethereal voice - often compared to those of Sarah McLachlan and Loreena McKennitt - and layered harmonies distinguish her work. This music aspires towards a deeper affect: it explores memories, moods and textures in a way that draws in listeners and invites them to form their own impressions. Her debut album Obstacles has received excellent reviews worldwide, but Lisa's strength undoubtedly lies in her captivating live performances, which have been praised by fans as "mesmerizing" and "magical".

Storm Coming On: Lisa Cuthbert in Second Life

With an affecting voice reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan and songs full of dramatic, emotional melodies, Dublin born singer-songwriter and pianist Lisa Cuthbert makes her inworld debut this weekend for a pair of shows at Idle Rogue and The Source:

LISA CUTHBERT

Saturday, 25 February 2012
1 a.m. SLT
secondlife://Idle Rogue/128/128/0

Sunday, 26 February 2012
1 p.m. SLT
secondlife://Arkon/80/34/0

Described by Hot Press Magazine as, “a darker Tori Amos”, Cuthbert stirs up a dark, dramatic mix of piano-based sounds with underlying prog, jazz, and folk influences, and her deftly layered harmonies draw the listener into dizzying swirls of mood and reverie. Her debut album Obstacles has received excellent reviews worldwide but Lisa's strength undoubtedly lies in her captivating live performances, which have been praised by fans as "mesmerizing" and "magical".

Arguably best known for her work with Anathema-related projects Antimatter and Ion, Lisa’s solo shows have enchanted audiences throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. A consummate performer, she tours frequently and has previously supported UK prog gods Marillion, Dutch chart topper Anneke van Giersbergen, David Eugene Edwards’ acclaimed alt-Americana band Wovenhand, and Kris Force’s dark neoclassical project Amber Asylum.

Press:
“The haunting 'Cherry Blossom', the bouncy 'My Material Girl' and the dramatic 'Storm Coming On' is the best quarter of an hour of music I've heard all year.” - DPRP.net

“Lisa’s lyrics and arrangements display an intelligence far beyond her years” - Everyone Deserves Music

“The greatest strength of the album is Lisa’s wonderful varied vocal range. She holds your attention through the delicate track ‘Second Leaving’ but can really belt out the lyrics during songs like ‘My Material Girl’.” - 2UIBestow

“Cuthbert obviously owes something to Dolores O’Riordan and company, but her music definitely stands on its own as both novel and emotionally engaging.” - Cluas

“Ihre Musik ist melodramatisch und einfach wunderschön!” - Tom Kolbe, King.FM Berlin

Press Information:

Mankind Tracer describes the concept and style of ‘Depth of Shadows’:

“Looking back at "The Depth of Shadows" as a concept, I find this album to be more personal than say "Beyond the Shade" and I expect long time fans will be able to hear a bit of a difference in the music... in me, personally. New listeners will hopefully take to it because lyrically on some of the tracks, I've tried to reach out to kind of say "Hey, you're not the only one going through that!" and let them know that they aren't alone in some life experiences that many of us have in common. Individual growth is a funny thing. So I think many will be able to relate on a more personal level.

Personally, musically and lyrically, I have let go of worrying about what listeners might think about me writing about my personal experiences, thoughts and values or even about the music itself and just wrote! They say a writer should write what they know so I've taken a more "this is me" approach without concern of criticism and wrote what I wanted to write, I wrote what I know... ME! So ultimately, there is definitely more personal emotion on "Depth of Shadows" in both the words and the music, even the production. Sure I still like to write lyrics without being completely literal, at least on most songs, but I think I've been a bit more transparent on this album. I felt I needed to do that.”

And on using new video streaming at his shows:

“I actually did a few video shows about 2 or 3 years ago. At the time, however, technological stability was still an issue. The video was choppy at best if it even STREAMED! Today, even avatar clarity is vastly improved since then. Those that know of me in SL know that I've been performing pretty much nonstop for over three and a half years. I love doing it but I feel now with the improvements Linden Labs has made to their infrastructure, video streaming is now possible but more than that, I feel it's the next logical step in the evolution of my SL career. Many people know my shows are very personal. I like to "talk" to the audience offering more than just a guy playing live. There is the interaction factor that I find the friends and fans compliment me most about. I'm hoping this will take that level of interaction to a new level.”
