Linden Endowment of the Arts Debuts LEA Theatre April 15

As part of its new Media Arts Center initiative, the Linden Endowment of the Arts will debut a state-of-the-art multimedia event space on April 15th, entitled the LEA Theatre, a facility that will host machinima programs, innovative performances and interactive works.

Created by Werner Kurosawa, the LEA Theatre is a unique Qsim design, crossing into four regions with a very unique audience capacity of 240. The venue features high-tech amenities, such as a large Chat Bridge (allowing text-conversations to reach far into the audience across multiple sims), screens that become transparent when not in use, and an incredible Audio / Video / Web switching system that uses the AV1000 developed by AviewTV. One of the benefits, according to Kurosawa, '...probably the only place in SL where you can be with 240 avatars'

The Theatre also features a dazzling array of movable mirrored panels covering its unmistakable dome, making it an iconic structure on the LEA campus. Werner's design is based on Delauney and Voronoi generating principles. There is switchable ambient lighting and according to Theatre Manager LaPiscean Liberty 'roundtable seating for a cozy closeness'. This space is perfect for Film Premiers and Festivals, media-enabled conferences and much more.

LEA Theatre will unveil a series of regular events, such as the return of a monthly machinima program, and will host booked events, partnering with arts organizations and event producers with projects that can really benefit from the new facility. The grand opening event will be the screening of this year's Machinima 48 Hour Film Project submissions, presented by Chantal Harvey on April 15th.

The Media Arts Center is a special project of the Linden Endowment of the Arts that focuses on machinima and other new media. The LEA Theatre is the first of MAC's initiatives to be released, and a full-fledged MAC facility will be opened before summer 2012.

DazzlersForLife2012BenefitOn January 29th, the Dazzlers performed their Showcase event to a packed house, and many audience members bravely removed attachments to help alleviate lag.  Dancers and audience alike remained steadfast against all odds and, in the end, everyone said they would do it again.

And guess what?!  Yes folks, the Dazzlers are going to do it again!  In fact, there will be TWO separate performances:  March 24th and March 31st, both at 2pm SLT.  But this time they'll be performing as Dazzlers for Life and the Showcase becomes a charity event benefitting Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising activity.

So, once again, this is your invitation to experience a set of exciting dance performances from ballet to urban to burlesque!  If you couldn't make it the first time, come on out and see what you missed. There will be fantastic music, great costumes and colorful sets at the beautiful Pyramid Theatre.  See you there!

Lisa Cuthbert's "Imperfect Contrition" Tour in Second Life

Lisa Cuthbert: Imperfect Contrition Tour

Rhapsody in green: Lisa Cuthbert, ready to celebrate her Irish heritage
An internationally recognized celebration of Irish culture, St. Patrick’s Day is traditionally marked as a temporary respite from the abstinence associated with Lent. Cuthbert’s upcoming studio album Paramour takes for its inspiration a dark stain on the history of the Catholic church in Ireland - the now defunct Magdalene Asylum Laundries. About the Laundries she writes:
“Magdalene Asylums were institutions where Catholic women were enslaved and forced to work beyond human endurance because they were considered unfit to live in Irish society. A woman was branded ‘fallen’ if: she became pregnant, was a rape victim, illegitimate (born out of wedlock), orphaned, mentally handicapped, or even just too pretty. The girls were stripped of their identities, forbidden to speak, and if they broke any of the rules or tried to escape they were severely beaten by the nuns, put in solitary confinement, or even sent to mental hospitals.”
As a former convent school student, Cuthbert has strong feelings about the Laundries as well as  Catholicism in Ireland:
“Over a period of 150 years, an estimated 30,000 women were imprisoned in the Magdalene Asylums, and the last one shut in 1996. That part is really shocking for me because by 1996, I had already been baptised in the Catholic church and was attending a Catholic convent school in Dublin. It's horrific to think that I've been raised and educated with the same values and morals imposed by an organisation that destroyed so many lives.”

“a simply amazing singer and a huge songwriting talent”
~ Andy Read,

Dublin born Lisa Cuthbert is a singer, instrumentalist and composer best known for her work with Duncan Patterson (ex Anathema) and Antimatter. Her solo work is as a dark, dramatic mix of emotional piano-based sounds with a Celtic twist; Hot Press Magazine has called her, "a darker Tori Amos".
Although Cuthbert's main instrument is the piano, her haunting, ethereal voice - often compared to those of Sarah McLachlan and Loreena McKennitt - and layered harmonies distinguish her work. This music aspires towards a deeper affect: it explores memories, moods and textures in a way that draws in listeners and invites them to form their own impressions. Her debut album Obstacles has received excellent reviews worldwide, but Lisa's strength undoubtedly lies in her captivating live performances, which have been praised by fans as "mesmerizing" and "magical".

LindenLab policy changes for Non SL viewers like Phoenix etc

original link from LindenLab website Community Manager at :

Third Party Viewer Policy Changes

Protecting Second Life users’ privacy and security is a priority, and today, we’ve made some changes to our Policy on Third Party Viewers to strengthen those protections for all users (Section 2.a.iii, 2.i, 2.j).

We’ve also updated the policy to be clearer about the sorts of innovations that developers should work on for their particular Viewers (Section 2.k), and which they should work on in partnership with Linden Lab for all of Second Life. This is so that we can avoid the problems that result when a Viewer changes the way elements of Second Life are defined or how they behave, in such a way that users on other Viewers don't experience the same virtual reality.

Here are the new sections of the policy (link):

2.a.iii : You must not provide any feature that circumvents any privacy protection option made available through a Linden Lab viewer or any Second Life service.
2.i : You must not display any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of any other Second Life user.
2.j : You must not include any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of the user in any messages sent to other viewers, except when explicitly elected by the user of your viewer.
2.k : You must not provide any feature that alters the shared experience of the virtual world in any way not provided by or accessible to users of the latest released Linden Lab viewer.

We encourage Third Party Developers to continue innovating with unique user interfaces, niche features, and ways of interacting with the virtual world, and we look forward to working in partnership with developers on ideas they have for new or improved shared experiences for all of Second Life. We want to incorporate more innovative new features into Second Life to improve the experience for all users, and we encourage TPV developers to submit proposals through our standard process. (link)
